Since its founding in 2007, GSU has built a movement of hundreds strong united in pursuit of better conditions for work and study at the University of Chicago. In the past five years, GSU has led campaigns for access to decent and affordable healthcare and childcare, an end to punitive fees, and better pay for the work we do here on campus--whether teaching, research, or other labor. We have also stood in solidarity with other campus workers, including nurses, housekeepers, janitors, and clerical staff.

GSU was recently featured on the local Hyde Park radio station, WHPK, with two of our members appearing on a show called Radical Minds to talk about the state of GSU, grad labor campaigns, and so on. Calling in were also organizers from the graduate student unions at UW-Madison and NYU. Listen to the show here or download the mp3!

On December 13, members of Graduate Students United delivered the #gradlaborcounts petition to the Chicago office of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The delivery was preceded by a piece of street theater, in which grad student workers implored the NLRB to wake up out of its coma so that it can perform its duties of ruling on cases such that filed by grad students at New York University.

You can also see photos of the action here (link).

Remember, it's not too late to sign the petition! The #gradlaborcounts site will be open for more signitures until the end of the year, when the NLRB will lose its quorum with board member Craig Becker's term ending. Visit http://gradlaborcounts.org read more about the NYU case before the NLRB and to sign the petition.
